The Moist Maker: Thanksgiving Leftover Sandwich

This flavorful sandwich features layers of turkey, stuffing, and a special gravy-soaked bread, perfect for using up Thanksgiving leftovers.

Creamy Garlic Mushroom Pasta

Ingredients

  • 1 loaf artisanal bread, cubed
  • 1 pound pork sausage
  • 1 tablespoon fresh sage, chopped
  • 1 clove garlic, crushed
  • 1 medium onion, diced
  • 2 celery stalks, diced
  • 1/4 cup chicken fat or schmaltz
  • 3 cups turkey stock
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 1 cup cranberry sauce
  • Cooked turkey, sliced
  • Gravy, for soaking

Instructions

  1. Cube the artisanal bread and toast it in a 200°F oven until dry.
  2. In a skillet, brown the pork sausage over medium heat, then drain excess fat.
  3. Add diced onion and celery to the skillet, sauté until softened.
  4. Mix the toasted bread, sausage mixture, sage, and stock in a large bowl.
  5. Temporarily cool the mixture, then mix in the beaten egg.
  6. Grease a casserole dish with chicken fat, then spoon in the stuffing mixture and pack it down.
  7. Bake the stuffing at 400°F for about 30 minutes until golden brown.
  8. Prepare gravy by whisking chicken fat with flour, then gradually adding turkey stock.
  9. Soak a layer of bread in gravy for the sandwich.
  10. Layer turkey slices and stuffing on the soaked bread.
  11. Top with another layer of soaked bread, then slice diagonally and serve.
